The NSW and ACT Chapters of the Australian Association of Special Education are excited to present an innovative Conference with an outstanding assembly of international and national speakers. The Conference focus will be evidence-based practice to promote teaching and learning, curriculum implementation, technology and the promotion of well-being in students with disabilities.
In 2014 the Conference will be held at the Novotel Sydney Manly Pacific Hotel, overlooking Sydney’s iconic Manly Beach, from Wednesday, 17th to Friday, 19th September. Our opening cocktail reception on Wednesday, 17th September will be sure to “ignite” your interest for the remainder of the Conference. As we embark on the implementation of the Australian Curriculum in our schools, our conference will represent an opportunity to reflect on the approaches with which we implement a curriculum for ALL young Australians with a broad range of disabilities. To represent this diversity of students there are three major themes: Curriculum, Teaching and Learning, and Wellbeing
To guide and provoke our thoughts, we have engaged four outstanding keynote speakers: including Professor Michael Wehmeyer from University of Kansas, long an advocate for and researcher of, best practice in the field of Special education. Professor Catherine Bradshaw from John Hopkins University who has a strong research focus on social emotional learning. Professor Donna Cross from Edith Cowan University in Western Australia has done extensive research into school wide practice in mental health and wellbeing and its impact on students and Professor James Gardner from the University of Oklahoma will share his extensive knowledge of Universal Design for Learning and the effective use of technology in Special Education.
