This workshop will deliver training on strategic instructional practices for designing and delivering well-crafted lessons that explicitly teach grade-level content to all students. Gain practical teaching skills that can be used right away for improved student engagement and for more effective classroom management.
This Explicit Direct Instruction Fundamentals workshop will cover:
- Brain Research that affects student learning
- How to create Student Engagement
- Effective Lesson Design
- Checking for Understanding to make instructional decisions while teaching
- Creating Higher-Order Questions
- Using Whiteboards to monitor all students
- Providing Corrective Feedback for student errors
- Teaching practice

Presented by Joe Ybarra
Joe is a co-owner and consultant for DataWORKS. Since 2010 Joe has worked exclusively with DataWORKS as a consultant, lesson designer, and curriculum calibrator. He was one of the lead trainers in the company’s recent rollout of curriculum in Australia, and has led the training and staff development at various sites throughout the U.S. Prior to joining DataWORKS, from 2003 to 2010, Joe was an elementary and middle school teacher. He started with DataWORKS in 2000 as a researcher, helping to define effective teaching practices that use cognitive brain strategies. Joe graduated from the University of California, San Diego, with a dual major in Environmental Science/Urban Planning.
Completing this event will contribute 5.25 hours of NESA Registered PD towards maintaining Proficient Teacher Accreditation in NSW.
