Hello, my name is Caitlin Irvine and I am an Honours student from the University of Sydney completing a Bachelor of Education/Bachelor of Arts. I would really appreciate it if you would be willing to participate in my study examining beliefs regarding the use of School Learning Support Officers to support students with disabilities in the classroom.


What the Project Is…
This study will explore the use of School Learning Support Officers (also known as paraprofessionals) who work in close proximity to students with moderate to severe intellectual disabilities in NSW mainstream high schools.

The aim of the study is to explore parent, teacher and paraprofessional perceptions (opinions/observations) about the impact that paraprofessional support has on students with disabilities, from an emotional, social, and academic perspective.

What you will do…

  • Complete a confidential online questionnaire (approx. 20 mins)
  • Participate in an optional follow up interview (30 min – 1 hour)

If you choose to participate in the study, you will be asked about your views regarding the role of paraprofessionals, the support paraprofessionals provide in the classroom, and the impact on students with disabilities, including your child.
