It is estimated that between 5% – 10% of the population have dyslexia. That means that there is on average between 1 and 3 students in EVERY classroom in NSW with dyslexia.

From 2019, SPELD NSW will offer psychological assessments of children, adolescents and adults to identify their learning strengths and weaknesses and if they have an identifiable learning disorder.

SPELD NSW acts as an advocate for students with specific learning difficulties and their families, teachers and schools.
We believe an important part of advocating for students with SLDs is providing hands on evidence based training to teachers, tutors and other professionals that work with them.
In 2018 we held 17 professional development events.
- There were 606 registrations to these events.
- 8,320 hours of NESA registered professional development provided.
SPELD NSW Member Discounts
SPELD NSW professional development includes evidence-based literacy and numeracy programs and best practice approaches to teach and support students with specific learning difficulties like dyslexia.
This annual certificate course provides specialist training for teachers of students with specific learning difficulties. It addresses reading, spelling, comprehension, numeracy and more.
