Vale Dr Donald Gillies - SPELD NSW

Supporting children and adults with specific learning difficulties

Vale Dr Donald Gillies

Don Gillies, a valued member of the SPELD NSW Board from 2009 to 2019, died on January 7. In 2021 he was conferred Life Membership for his substantial contributions to our work particularly in writing submissions and attending consultation meetings with the Department of Education.

Don felt the plight of juvenile offenders who often have difficulties with literacy and he advocated that TAFE be strengthened as the place where so many young people in our society “get a second chance”.

Don was a kind and gentle man who will be sadly missed.  SPELD NSW sends our condolences to his family and friends.
